Biography

 

Kurt Briggs Schindler was born and raised in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands.  He began his musical career     in grade school playing the flute, through college. Simultaneously, in high school he started playing bass guitar in a heavy metal band with classmates called Bad Influence. Then founded, along with classmates the band Paradox, a versatile rock band playing originals and covers. With influences like Rush, Pink Floyd, Iron Maiden, the band Paradox was a big hit in The Jacksonville Florida area.

 

After taking up guitar and world percussion, he moved to Napa California in 1989’ with the destruction of St. Croix, from Hurricane Hugo, he founded the band Grass Child Gypsy. Grass Child Gypsy was a completely original Band playing Reggae, rock, world jazz, funk, and the blues with a jammy approach. Grass Child Gypsy released two albums: Self titled, Grass Child Gypsy in 1995’ and then the album Evolution, released in 1999’. Grass Child Gypsy toured the Northern California area for eight years with a dedicated following.

 

Also while in the San Francisco Bay area he joined Latin Jazz group Akanthos. Mostly self taught, he became interested in Flamenco guitar in 2000. Flamenco is a Gypsy Style of guitar, singing and dance from Southern Spain known as Andalusia.

 

He returned to St. Croix in 2001’ where he began his solo career. Noted for his live show which consists of him playing numerous instruments. He may start off with the guitar rhythm track, and then add a bass line, then some mouth percussion, vocals, flute, dijereedoo, ect. All of this is done live with nothing ever pre-recorded to the amazement of the audience.

 

He has released two albums in St. Croix: Self titled: Kurt Briggs Schindler 2001’. A completely original studio album with a big flamenco (Spanish Guitar) influence. This album was written, recorded and all instruments performed by Kurt Schindler.

 

In 1996 he released the live show: Kurt Briggs Schindler live at the Fort Christian Brew Pub.
